El 15 de septiembre de 2015 Moise lanzó su candidatura para las presidenciales de ese año por el oficialista Partido Haitiano Tet Kale (PHTK) pero las elecciones fueron anuladas. Finalmente consiguió la elección presidencial en la primera vuelta en noviembre de 2016, con el 55,60 % de los votos.
